The Road to Enlightenment - Gamemaster Cody (Aug 25 - 29)

A Dungeons and Dragons Summer Camp adventure designed for levels 3 through 5. This campaign will use pre-made characters that can be customized to match play style.

In this adventure, inspired by China’s Great Zodiac Race story, players will represent one of twelve Zodiac animals in a fast paced race to the finish line. Will you achieve victory through the charisma of the dragon, the ferocity of the tiger, or the patience of the ox? The choice is yours in this cosmic competition.

Along the way, you will overcome hazards on the raceway, test your wits in perplexing puzzles, and most of all, triumph over the other competitors hungry for the grand prize: an audience with the Enlightened Sage.

Will you come out on top and take your place beside The Great One?

    ~~

Many seek peace in this life yet the path to oneness of mind and body seems all the more elusive as kingdoms wage war with one another. It is rumored that, in the era of greatest conflict and cruelty, that a man learned the secret to enlightenment after a long and arduous journey.

This feat remains a rumor because few have seen this "enlightened one” since he embarked on his quest. The son of a powerful warlord, he left behind a kingdom and a family to pursue the secret to internal harmony. He rejected the material world to live as an ascetic in the wooded hills of the Darmese mountains.Yet, despite his absence, a race is held in his honour at the eastern border of Shen every year.

Ma-zi is the head of the Ren Monastery where the race begins. She hosts all the pilgrims willing to walk the path of the Enlightened One.

As a little girl, she met the Enlightened One while he was on his journey. She was the only survivor of a brutal attack on her village. She was saved by the Enlightened One and escorted to the monastery that she now leads in her old age. With tears in her eyes, she begged to follow the sage on his journey, but he was firm in his denial.

“The time is not right.” He said, “You cannot follow me.”

“But you will be the one who leads others along my path.”

She was perplexed by his words at first, but eventually accepted her role as a guide for those looking for the remedy to suffering. She welcomes each contestant with her boisterous and joyful personality, but she concludes the opening ceremony with the same secret wish in her heart: that someone will claim the prize at the end of the race and finally see the Enlightened One after all these years.

    Will you fulfill her wish?
